Happy New Years everybody! It's been a long 8 years, I mean, 1 year.

Me & wife-wife took the train to Kieran's around 10pm. Sat around drinking Guiness and Irish Coffee and sang Auld Lang Syne with a loud Irish band until 12:30am. Stumbled back to the train and then stopped at the Cardinal Bar on our way home for a glass of wine. Did some shots when we got home and that was new years. It would be a lot more fun with a bigger group of people, maybe we'll try planning an outing for next year. Stumbling around downtown Mpls - much more fun when it's you and your friends.

Here's to friends, new houses, and the end of an administration!

Wheee.. there is a computer and this internet thing again for me to use.

2 offices painted and put together (more or less). The living/dining room left to paint and finish up all the odd little hardware projects around the house and I'll call it liveable.

But for right now, the dim office lighting and Groove Salad makes it feel like home to me.

So here's the deal:

'Lame Duck challenge' met, so software is free

Credit dropping gas prices with a free software offer on Tuesday for Mac users.

By RANDY SALAS, Star Tribune

Last update: October 27, 2008 - 8:07 AM

President Bush gets a lot of grief over the economic woes that have occurred under his watch, but now people can thank him for something spiffy: Free software. It comes courtesy of the Great American Lame Duck Presidential Challenge.

In July, St. Paul software developer CodeWeavers came up with the gimmick to make its products available free for a day if any one of five positive (but seemingly unlikely at the time) things happened during Bush's last six months in office: gas drops to $2.79 a gallon, milk drops to $3.50 a gallon, U.S. jobs exceed 138 million, the Twin Cities median home price returns to $233,000 or Osama bin Laden is captured.

Bingo on No. 1.

When CodeWeavers CEO Jeremy White saw that gas was $2.79 a gallon during a recent fill-up, "I screamed, 'Woohoo!' Then I yelled, 'Oh, crap!' as I realized every American can now have my software for free -- kind of upsets my fourth-quarter revenue projections," he said.

So on Tuesday, all of CodeWeavers products, which allow Mac and Linux users to run Windows applications, can be downloaded for free -- instead of $40 each -- at the company's website, www.codeweavers.com.

So here's to purchase offer #3.. http://msp.themlsonline.com/search/3608806.html

Other than some ugly carpet, a wall or two to change the color of, and some rickety basement steps, it's ready to live in. No massive water damage, paint falling off the walls, or roofs caving in like we've seen with other places in our price range so far. :)

UPDATE:
Woot, our offer got accepted @ 95k! Now for more paperwork and an inspection or two.

UPDATED UPDATE:
Inspection is Saturday at 8am (bleh!). We'll have more photos posted up Saturday of the place to look at.

Cool beans, we got Google Chrome working on Mac & Linux in two weeks when Google has only released it for Windows. Go Codeweavers!

» Googlist Mutterings
Google has a library collection (http://books.google.com/bkshp?hl=en&tab=wp), but I didn't know you could create your own library. A bit like the Mac app Delicious Library.

Except with Google you get a synopsis of the story, write & read reviews, rate, table of contents, search the book text, keywords of key concepts, show other books citing this one, show other scholarly articles citing this one, main character list, a mini-google search of the book name, and a Google map pinpointing areas in the book. Ka wow.

So begins Part 2 of residing the house. Sunday (all day) through Wednesday (6pm till dark) weather permitting, Thursday through Saturday are going to be our days off. It'll be nice not rushing as fast as possible to beat the first snowstorm that plagued Part 1. Working in shorts, having the tools and knowing which order to tear down and put stuff up in sure beats consecutively heavier jackets, wasteful trips to buy more tools, and sitting on your hands waiting for more supplies.

So a little slower than the advertised 50/6Mbps, but still...
